Fiber Research and Strategy
Risk research, social & environmental.
Mapping of certifications and traceability platforms.
The textile industry's social and environmental risks are often hidden deep in supply chains. This research mapped these risks across a range of fiber types, from conventional cotton to emerging Next Gen alternatives.
Scope of the project included mapping current fibers and supply chains, their potential alternatives and availability and analysing and presenting the findings to and with internal stakeholders.
On the social side, we mapped and made a risk assessment for labor conditions, exploitation risk, and inequity from fiber origin.
On the environmental side, we evaluated water use, chemical intensity, land impact, and carbon footprint by fiber type. Cotton ws explored in greater depth, with area specific deep dives and recommendtions for potential partner orgnisations.
We also mapped the landscape of certification, traceability and verification tools and systems currently available to brands,. Ranging from certification schemes and isotope testing to digital traceability and blockchain-based chain-of-custody solutions.
The findings were translated into a risk framework and mitigation strategy, giving the commissioning brand a practical tool to move beyond compliance and a framework on how to diversify their fiber portfolio.
